December 18, 2023 – This Week at McIvor

2023-12-24 Advent - Give You a Sign
Weekly Worship Service

Sunday at 10 a.m. we will celebrate the fourth Advent with a Family Christmas service, with a special presentation by the children in our Sunday School program. Pastor Kim will be speaking on An Advent Song of Ascents: Give You A Sign from Isaiah 7:10-16, Matthew 1:18-25.

This Advent season we will be collecting food items for Harvest Manitoba. If you would like to contribute please bring your non-perishable food items to church during the next weeks and place them in the manager in the foyer.

Prayer Focus: Joy and Hope for All

Consider who you may invite to Thursday’s Blue Christmas service and pray for those struggling to find joy in this season of joy.

Even the wilderness and desert will be glad in those days. The wasteland will rejoice and blossom with spring crocuses. Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers and singing and joy! The deserts will become as green as the mountains of Lebanon, as lovely as Mount Carmel or the plain of Sharon. There the Lord will display his glory, the splendor of our God.Isaiah 35:1-2

…strengthen those who have tired hands and encourage those who have weak knees. Say to those with fearful hearts, ‘Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.’Isaiah 35:3-4

Those who have been ransomed by the Lord will return. They will enter Jerusalem singing, crowned with everlasting joy. Sorrow and mourning will disappear and they will be filled with joy and gladness.Isaiah 35:10

But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God.Psalm 146:5

Blue Christmas Service at McIvor – Thursday at 7 p.m.

This is a service of hope and healing for anyone that is hurting during the Christmas season. Join us as we reflect on God’s love through liturgy and music. There will be time for coffee and visiting after the service. There are invitations at the Welcome Centre for you to give to family and friends that may like to attend.

Advent Series 2023: An Advent Song of Ascents

The opening words of Psalm 122 capture some of the Advent spirit for this year, “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’”

Advent is a season of anticipation, of watching and waiting for Christ’s return, but it is also a reminder that we are a work in progress. While we are anticipating, we also look back and remember the time when God broke into our history and became present to humanity in a remarkable way.
