January 8, 2024 – This Week at McIvor

2024-01 Vanishing Grace
Weekly Worship Service

Sunday at 10 a.m. Pastor Kim will be speaking on Vanishing Grace, based on a series by Philip Yancey examining why the church often stirs up negative feelings. Our world has a desperate need for grace and Christians can help make the gospel good news again.

Sunday School for ages 4-14 will follow the service.

Prayer Focus: 14 Days of Prayer for MBCM Churches – January 7-20

Hear my words, LORD! Consider my groans! Pay attention to the sound of my cries, my King and my God, because I am praying to You! LORD, in the morning You hear my voice. In the morning I lay it all out before You. Then I wait expectantly.Psalm 5:1–3

The circumstances surrounding the MBCM Special Assembly on January 20 are challenging. They bring up a great deal of personal story, of experienced convictions and much more.

We call on all MBCM churches to pray. Beginning on January 7, 2024, we invite you to pray every day up to and including January 20. As a community, pray during these 14 days that:

  • God will be glorified in our words and actions
  • We will be drawn into a deeper love of our Lord Jesus
  • The Spirit will lead you to pray as the Lord wills
Family News

Our prayers and condolences to Agnes and her family on the passing of Harry Olfert on January 4 at Riverview Health Centre with his family by his side. There will be a viewing at Friends Funeral Chapel on Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the funeral will take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at McIvor Church.

Albert Regehr will be celebrating his 100th birthday on Wednesday! Family, friends and the Caregivers will have a small celebration for him this week.

Thank You and Request For Help

While the office has been reorganizing the office these last months, it came to their attention that the archives and records have not been attended to for an extended period of time. Linda and Bob Penner have stepped up, and have worked many hours to sort and organize the Archive Room, while Anne Friesen has sorted out boxes of sheet music. We want to publicly thank them for their behind the scenes work with this much needed project!

What did become apparent was that there is missing financial and minutes information. If you served on committees contributing to these types of missing files, would you please check for helpful information? If you find information, please hand them in or email the office.

Update from the Discernment Team

The Discernment Team will be holding another round of prayerful discernment to find people for church leadership. There will be information in the foyer beginning January 7. Please pray for the church and the need for some additional people to serve on Church Council.

MBCM Special Assembly – January 20

As some of you are aware, there is a conference decision to be made regarding the status of River East Church at a Special Assembly on January 20. If you would like more information and copies of documents chronicling the journey, please email the office

River East Church has extended an invitation to hear about the biblical and theological underpinnings of their journey to inclusion. On January 14 at 7 p.m. you are invited to attend in person or via zoom (the link is on their website), where they will share that part of their journey and provide the biblical and theological basis of how they got there.

Let’s pray for all of our MB Churches in Manitoba and the Conference as a whole, as we walk a difficult path that is causing some division within the conference.
