March 4, 2024 – This Week at McIvor

2024-03-10 Do You Want To Know My Secret Identity
Weekly Worship Service

Sunday at 10am Jonathan Klassen will be sharing his testimony and preaching Do You Want To Know My Secret Identity? from Genesis 3:1-14, followed by a congregational lunch. Please bring a dessert to share. There will be no Sunday School this week.

Prayer Focus: Forgiveness – An Unnatural Act

“…Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me?…” Matthew 18:21

“…‘I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’” Matthew 18:32-33

Family News

Elizabeth would very much appreciate your prayers as she goes in for cancer surgery on Wednesday, March 6.

“…The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” James 5:16

Luise and Cornelius are asking for prayer. He has been placed in a care home and they request prayer as both of them adjust to this new living situation.

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.Lamentations 3:22-23

Update from the Pastoral Search Committee

On Saturday and Sunday we will welcome Jon and Lynnette Klassen and their two boys (ages 2 and 4) to McIvor for candidating for the position of Teaching Pastor. There are some meetings that will take place on Saturday with different groups and on Sunday, Jon will be sharing his testimony and preaching, followed by a congregational lunch.

We are looking for some volunteers to help with hosting a leadership brunch on Saturday morning, March 9, for about 10 people. If you are willing to help with preparing some food, or serving/organizing it (buffet style), please let the office know. The Food Committee will be providing soup and buns for lunch on Sunday, March 10. Please bring a dessert to share.

This is an unusual situation, as Jon candidated at another church in February. Since both churches interviewed him, we invited him to candidate here as well so that Jon and Lynette would have as much information as possible to make a well informed decision for their family.

Let’s pray for Jon and Lynette as they walk through this process. If they choose McIvor, the process would continue with a congregational vote in a couple of weeks.

Thank You

A big thank you to Monica and all the volunteers who helped organize and facilitate the Family Fun Day Beach Party! What a wonderful way to connect with families in our community!

McIvor Spring Break Day Camp – March 25-28

The Spring Break Day Camp is filling up quickly and we are on track to reach our capacity of 30 kids! Register your kids now. This is very exciting and a huge thank you to everyone who has already volunteered to help make this ministry possible. We have a few key roles that still need to be filled, so please consider if you can help out in the following ways:

  • Two adults on March 25 and 26 to help supervise from 10:30 – 2:30. These roles will largely include the set-up and clean-up of various activities.
  • A foyer security person on March 25-27 from 10am-3pm to monitor the front door traffic and help with some table and chair set up in the gym.
  • Four adults to join us for our field trip to the Manitoba Museum on March 28, 10:30am-2:30pm.

We will also be accepting donations of cookies and Rice Krispie squares for the day camp throughout the month of March. Baking can be dropped off on the designated table in the foyer on Sunday mornings. No nuts please. Contact Monica for more information.

Tax Receipts have been printed and are in your mailboxes.
Office Opportunity

If you have office administrator experience, or would like to learn and would like to work casually to cover in the office for vacations or illness, please contact Grace.

Missions Committee Lent Project

McIvor Missions Committee invites you to take part in this year’s Lent Giving Project. We will once again be collecting hygiene items for One 88 Church. Here is a list of items that they regularly require in their drop-in program. Cash donations will be also gratefully accepted.

Another Chance to Share

A couple of moms are new to Canada and could use some assistance. We are still looking for some bunk beds, as one mom has four children sleeping in one queen size bed. If you have, or know of anyone who has this item to give, or if you would like to help fund a second-hand purchase, contact Colleen.
