November 27, 2023 – This Week at McIvor

Weekly Worship Service

Our next weekly service will be Sunday at 10 a.m. and we will celebrate the first Advent with Pastor Kim speaking on An Advent Song of Ascents: Up To Restoration from Isaiah 2:1-5 and Psalm 122. Following the service, all kids ages 4-14 are invited to Sunday School.

Prayer Focus: Hunger

For I was hungry and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.Matthew 25:35

Manitoba Harvest and other agencies like the Canadian Foodgrains Bank who are endlessly working to meet the ongoing need for food in our city and in the world.

55+ Walk and Talk Christmas Lunch – December 5, 11:30 a.m.

The 55+ Walk and Talk Group is hosting a Christmas Lunch (Turkey Dinner) and Carol Sing. Tickets must be purchased in advance at $20 per person from the church office, or on Sunday mornings.

Congregational Meeting and Lunch – December 10

On Sunday, December 10, there will be a brief Congregational Meeting following the service. The agenda is to provide an update regarding the Lead Pastor position. Some changes to the job description are being proposed. We have received a promising application that has created the opportunity to rethink our pastoral positions in order to maximize the experience and gifts that God has given to our present and potential pastors.

A soup and buns lunch is included. If possible, please bring a dessert to share.

McIvor Church Advent Project: Madison House

The McIvor Church Missions Committee is once again partnering with Maple Leaf School to collect items for gift bags for the residents of Madison House!

The items we are looking for are: shampoo, bath towels (new), socks. Monetary donations are also appreciated and will serve to buy such items.

We will be hosting a Christmas party at Madison House on December 9 from 10-11. We are looking for a few people interested in joining us at the party to play instruments and sing carols. There will be a sign up sheet located at the collection table in the foyer.

Blue Christmas Service at McIvor – December 21 at 7 p.m.

This is a service of hope and healing for anyone that is hurting during the Christmas season. Join us as we reflect on God’s love through liturgy and music. There will be time for coffee and visiting after the service. There are invitations at the Welcome Centre for you to give to family and friends that may like to attend.

Invitation from River East Church

In advance of January 20, when the Manitoba Conference will assemble to determine whether River East Church (REC) can remain in the Conference, REC invites you to attend ‘Our Journey Towards Inclusion’ on Sunday, November 26 at 7:00 p.m. Some have expressed interest in how REC came to its inclusive statement and we would like to share that path with you and respond to your questions.

Covenant Church Handel’s Messiah – December 15-17

Covenant Church invites you to celebrate the coming of the King this Christmas with Handel’s Messiah December 15-17. The Friday and Saturday’s performances will be at 7 p.m. and the shortened Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. will have exciting features for families with young children. The concerts will feature a 90-voice community choir highlighted by up-and-coming soloists and a 20-member chamber orchestra directed by Dr. Stuart Sladden. Admission is $30 for the Friday and Saturday performances and $15 for Sunday (children 12 and under are free on Sunday).
