September 18, 2023 – This Week at McIvor

September 24 - Water into Wine and Other Miracles
Weekly Worship Service

Our next weekly service will be Sunday, September 22 at 10 a.m. Scott Koop will be speaking on Highlights from the Gospel of John: Water into Wine and other Miracles, from John 2:1-12. A congregational vote and Sunday School for elementary aged kids will follow the service. Here is a teaser of the sermon to get us thinking:

The story of Jesus turning water into wine raises many questions for us. Why did He make wine for people who had already been drinking a lot? Why did He make so much wine? Why did He make wine that was clearly superior to what they had been drinking?

Jesus is not just showing off here, nor is he condoning behaviour that would go against what He has instructed us (not to be drunk).

What this miracle and others in the book of John show us, is that Jesus is trying to do much more than get us out of a jam. He’s showing us His character and leading us into a deeper relationship and a more intimate love of Him.

Prayer Focus: Special Birthday

“I will be your God throughout your lifetime – until your hair is white with age. I made you and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.” – Isaiah 46:4

Pray for Frank Sawatzky, who turns 99 on Thursday! Praise Jesus for His faithfulness and loving care!

Current Sermon Series: Highlights from the Gospel of John

In the next six weeks we will look at some of the highlights of this gospel, some well known stories and see what they mean for us today. As we take a glimpse into the Gospel of John, may it inspire and bless you. We encourage you to read along during the week and in 6 weeks you’ll have read through the gospel! See the outline

Youth Group Kick-Off – Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Quilt-Tying Event

McIvor quilters have started up again and we have a number of quilts that are ready for tying. Anyone interested in participating in this project is welcome to join us. We will be tying Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. No special skills are required. For more information contact Anne.

Ushers Needed – Are you available to serve one Sunday a month?

If you would like to be a part of this team that helps welcome people with a friendly smile and facilitate smooth worship services, contact Rodney.

Kids Club Ministry – Do you love kids and building relationships with them?

Our youth group is thriving and there is a growing need for a Kids Club Ministry (grade 2-5). Most roles do not require preparation, or a weekly commitment! If you are interested, or would like more information contact Monica or Pastor Kim.

Food Bank Team Looking for Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to help with the Food Bank on Wednesday afternoons from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. We hope to have enough volunteers (of all ages) to make teams of 3-4 people to receive and store food away once a month. There is a physical aspect to this task, but we have taken measures to mitigate it with the use of carts and trolleys. Please contact Rodney if you are interested.
