2025-05-04 The Problem of Prayer - The Curious Case of the Prophet Habakkuk The Man who Prayed for a Dove, but Received a Rottweiler
Weekly Worship Services

Sunday at 10 a.m. Dr. Pierre Gilbert continues our series The Problem of Prayer, with a sermon on Habakkuk 1:1-17 entitled, The Curious Case of the Prophet Habakkuk – The Man Who Prayed for a Dove, but Received a Rottweiler

What happens when God does indeed answer our prayers, but not in ways we expect? Habakkuk, a seventh-Century prophet, once received an answer to an urgent prayer. But God’s response shocked him…

Sunday School for ages preschool through grade 5 will be offered following the service.

Upcoming Sermon by Dr. Pierre Gilbert in our Current Series The Problem of Prayer

May 11, 2025 – If All Must Be Healed, Why Do We Still Have the Sick Among Us? The James Protocol (James 5:13-16)

What are we to make of this most explicit and puzzling passage on prayer in the New Testament? A Q&A session will follow the service.

OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT AND SERVE
Volunteer Opportunity: McIvor Friendship Potluck Supper – May 8, 5-6:30 p.m.

The McIvor Friendship Supper is a monthly potluck, inviting Harvest, Razorback and Kids’ Club families to join us. This is a McIvor potluck and we are not expecting our guests to bring anything.

Our next supper is May 8 and is a come and go between 5 and 6:30 p.m. We need you to come and bring a main dish or dessert for 8-10 people.

We also need one volunteer to help with table and chair takedown.

Let’s reach out to the families in our midst and invite them to join us at McIvor! Contact Ron for information and to sign up.

Immersed in the Mystery of the Triune God: Engaging the Apostles’ Creed – May 18, May 25 and June 1 following the service

The Apostle’s Creed stands as an effective summary of the Christian faith, an interpretive key for Scripture and the pledge of allegiance for those baptized into Christ. Join us following the Worship Service, as Rev. Dr. Robert Dean, Professor of Theology and Ethics at Providence Seminary, leads us on a three week exploration of our faith as we engage with the Apostle’s Creed.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
No Pickleball Election Monday

Monday evening’s regularly scheduled Pickleball is cancelled because McIvor is serving as a Polling Station in the General Election. Please be much in prayer, particularly throughout this day, as we elect a government for the 45th Parliament.

Pastor Jon will be on vacation as of April 28, returning to the office on May 6.

The 2025 Spring Report is available here or in hard copy at the Information Centre.

Announcement from Council

Council is pleased to share an announcement with all congregants that was made at Sunday’s service:

It is the recommendation of the Council, Pastors Mikayla and Jon, and the HR Committee, that we affirm Sherryl Koop as our Interim Lead Pastor, who would start June 1 to overlap with Kim in June.

You may think you know Sherryl as she is a long time congregant of McIvor, but we encourage you to read her remarkable faith journey and additional information from Council to further understand our recommendation and to get to know her better. Have a week full of blessings!

Used Couches for Youth Room? Are you available to help deliver/move them?

Do you have a used couch that you would like to donate for our new Youth Room? We ask that you send a photo and dimensions to Pastor Mikayla, to ensure it will fit in the space.

Do you have a truck and/or are you willing to help move any couches? We have a couple available to us, but need to pick them up and move them to the church. Contact Pastor Mikayla
