2025-10-12 Stories from Scripture God Calls Samuel - 1 Samuel 31-21; John 2021-23
Weekly Worship Service

On Sunday at 10 a.m. Pastor Jon will continue with Stories from Scripture, preaching a sermon entitled God Calls Samuel, based on 1 Samuel 3:1-21; John 20:21-23

There is no Sunday School this week. It will resume on October 19. BUT…

You can join us in the gym for our Thanksgiving Sunday Giving Project Showcase, featuring pie to enjoy, fellowship and crafts for the kids! You will also have the opportunity to explore some of our outreach ministries on showcase and to learn how you can get involved and/or support financially. Please bring a pie to share if you are able.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Condolences to Scott and Natalie Koop and their family

Scott Koop’s dad, Victor Koop, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, October 2 in Tabor Home in Morden. Prayers for Scott’s mom and family are appreciated.

Sign Up for Fellowship Groups

Sunday after the service you have the opportunity to sign up for a Fellowship Group. Please see Pastor Sherryl in the foyer. In the meantime, here is a list of the groups being offered for your consideration:

  • Theological Discussion Group, led by Leona Boschmann and Karin Friesen – If you enjoy fellowship in conversation about theological questions, this group might be for you. Our plan is to gather around the questions and mysteries of our faith, in the belief that in conversations about real questions we will grow closer to Jesus and each other. We hope to be a safe, non-combative place to explore subjects and questions that are difficult to address in other areas of our life together as a church. This group can accommodate a maximum of 10 people.
  • ReFrame: Connecting Faith and Life, led by Pastor Sherryl –ReFrame is described as a discipleship resource that examines the disconnect between the story of Scripture and the story of our lives. ReFrame begins with the conviction the the story of Scripture is relevant to all of life: our jobs, our responsibilities, our relationships, and our world. It is a 10-session video series developed out of Regent College in BC and involves some ‘homework’. This group can accommodate a maximum of 12 people.
  • Men’s Bible Study, led by Bruce Wiebe – This is a group of (relatively) young men, gathering for fellowship around studying Scripture together. On some occasions, we have used a guide or lesson plan, for other studies we just read the text and discuss. Each meeting ends with prayer for each other.
  • Women’s Fellowship, led by Lynette Klassen – This group is intended for working women and mothers with young children. Depending on the interest of those signed up, this group may include a Bible study, a book study, or it may lean more toward a social group.
  • Book Club, led by Pastor Jon – This group is for anyone who loves to read books that inspire deeper thinking and Christian devotion. We will begin with a study of Bonhoeffer’s Discipleship. Subsequent books will be chosen according to the interests of the group.
Looking to Connect and Serve?

Here are some Volunteer Outreach Opportunities for your consideration:

  • Supervised Playtime, Sunday School – Those willing to help with Supervised Playtime during the service, or helping teach Sunday School, contact Monica.
  • Kids Club – We are looking for volunteers to help with our registration table and the setup and cleanup of snacks, and 2 people willing to drive 2-4 kids to and/or from Kids’ Club, who would not otherwise have the means to attend. If you are willing to help, please contact Monica.
  • Community Supper – We need people to help with simple kitchen duties, table and chair set up/take down and to make coffee. Contact Ron for more information.
Winter Clothing for Newcomers to Canada

We are looking for winter wear for families who have recently arrived in Canada. All sizes are welcome, but especially kids’ jackets, toques, etc. If you want to help, but have no extra jackets, one suggestion is to go to thrift stores and look for good deals. Kids jackets and ski pants are quite plentiful at this time of year! Please bring all donations to the church office. Thank you!

Adult Education Class – Winsome Conviction Part 2a – October 19, 11 a.m.

The Adult Education Class Winsome Conviction: Disagreeing without Dividing the Church, a video series by Dr. Rick Langer, will resume October 19 after the service. If you missed Part 1, you can catch up and watch it here.

Recent times have shown us that Christians across denominations, and even within individual churches, have significant disagreements on things that really matter. This polarizing effect demonstrates that we don’t know how to disagree well, leaving many feeling like they need to choose between having convictions, or having unity.

Dr. Langer is hopeful for a better way, in which Christians hold strong and well-formed convictions, and disagreeing well can be a catalyst for deeper fellowship and unity among and within churches.

Community Swap Meet – October 26, 1-4 p.m.

Bring your household items, clothing, toys, etc. to contribute to the swap on October 25 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Come mingle with our neighbours on October 26 between 1 and 4 p.m. and enjoy the hunt for some “new to you” treasures to take home!

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Class (6 weeks, beginning October 30, 10 a.m.)

If you or anyone you know might be interested in learning English as an additional language, McIvor is offering EAL Classes. We are looking for people willing to attend and engage in conversation with students.

Community Supper – October 30, 5-6:30 p.m. (come and go)

All are welcome on October 30 from 5-6:30 p.m. for our next Community Supper. Harvest, Razorback and Kids Club families have been invited to join us for a come and go style supper. If you are willing to bring a pot of soup to serve to 10 people, please sign up in the church foyer or contact Ron.
