September 23, 2024 – This Week at McIvor

2024-09-29 Hebrews Jesus is Greater - A More Excellent Covenant - Heb. 81-13
Weekly Worship Service

Sunday at 10 a.m. Pastor Mikayla will continue our series, Hebrews: Jesus is Greater, speaking from Hebrews 8:1-13 with a sermon entitled A More Excellent Covenant

Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at five passages from Hebrews that draw our attention to the greatness of Jesus. To see all things summed up in Christ and to hear the Old Testament as the Word of God to us today is where we hope that Hebrews will take us. Read more

With last week’s launch of McIvor Refresh and Week 2 – Adoration now under way, you can access the Prayer Map and cards each week here if you missed picking up a physical copy.

Sunday School – following the service

With the re-establishment of our CEC Committee, we are expanding our Sunday School offerings this fall and have created two Sunday School classes:

  • Preschool and Kindergarten Class – Located in the Preschool Play Area behind the Sanctuary, it will begin immediately following the service. If your child is already in Supervised Playtime, there is no need to pick them up. Otherwise please drop them off in the play area following the Benediction.
  • Grade 1-5 Class – This will be located in the newly rebranded Kids’ Chapel downstairs (formerly The Garage). We have a variety of teachers this year, so please bring your kids to the doors at the back of the Sanctuary to meet the teacher, or you can bring them downstairs yourself if you prefer.
Prayer Request from Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba (MBCM)

We are reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your prayers and support for our House of Covenant International Church. Tragically, a fire on September 14th has devastated the church location, resulting in significant damage and loss, claiming two lives and leaving others injured. For more details, you can read the articles in the Winnipeg Free Press and on CHVN Radio.

Pastor Yohannes humbly asks for your prayers for the affected families, their congregation and all those impacted by this tragedy. Pray for:

  • spiritual strength and guidance
  • success in finding a place to meet as a church
  • God’s presence with us during this uncertain time
Kids’ Club – Wednesdays, 7 p.m.

Our midweek Kids’ Club is looking for 3 more volunteers willing to help out one Wednesday night a month. There are a variety of roles that need to be filled. Contact Monica to sign up, or if you have questions.

McIvor Coffeehouse

Do you love coffee? Our Coffeehouse Team is looking for Baristas to join us! This is a great way to connect with our church community and learn a new skill (making fancy coffee is fun). All training provided—no, you don’t need to be a trained coffee expert. Our team is a lot of fun and we’d love for you to join us. Baristas typically serve once every 4-6 weeks. If you want to join the McIvor Coffeehouse Team, or have questions, please connect with Luke.

MCC Quilt Tying – October 2, 9:30 a.m. to noon in the foyer

A handmade quilt provides not only warmth, but also a tangible reminder to people in vulnerable situations that their needs are not forgotten. Last year, MCC shipped 53,601 comforters to communities in Canada, El Salvador, Malawi, Ukraine, the U.S. (including Puerto Rico) and Zambia. All are welcome to join us in tying quilts to help in this MCC initiative.

Young Adult Bible Study

Young adults are invited to join our Bible study, which brings together people from multiple churches to dig into the Word and discuss the historical, theological and relational aspects of the Bible. There is also an opportunity to break into smaller groups to discuss the study and check in about people’s lives. Often we meet in someone’s home over coffee, tea and snacks. Contact Pastor Mikayla for more information.

Donwood Soup and Pie Fundraiser – October 4, Donwood Auditorium

Pre-booking at 204.668.4410 is preferred. $15/person (additional donations are appreciated). Hosted by the Donwood Auxiliary, all funds raised will go to Donwood projects. Read more.

Opportunity to Help with Fall Clean Up at Donwood

Donwood Manor is looking for volunteers to assist with the fall cleanup. This includes sweeping the grounds and weeding. Contact Jennifer Kappy, Manager of Volunteer Resources, for more information.
